iMessage not syncing with my phone contacts

i recently purchased a macbook pro and when I open iMessage it is not syncing with most of my phone contacts. It shows some contacts as names but most as just their phone numbers on iMessage on my mac. I also have 2 apple ID accounts which I am trying to get rid of one and merge the 2 accounts. Please help. Thank you!

Accounts can't be merged. Purchases are locked to the account the purchased them.

For contacts, Messages uses the contacts in your Contact app. What contacts show in your Contacts app?
